Burn after reading FAQ

When exactly is the share deleted?

After the recipient views the content for the first time. The share is permanently deleted and cannot be restored.

Can I use it for files, not just text?

Yes. Burn-after-reading works for uploaded files too — send a one-time document that vanishes after it's viewed.

What if the recipient hasn't opened it yet?

Until the first view, the share stays available (unless it expires first). You can also delete it manually at any time.
